Overview
Our first stop is one of the Island’s most photographed sites: Sombrio Falls. We will hike this beautiful stoney beach to a sandstone canyon leading to a secret waterfall. Be aware that this soft sand and loose cobble beach is hard to walk on and we will be walking in the stream bed to the falls. We can provide boots and poles for this short section but you must be comfortable walking on uneven terrain, in shallow, moving, cold water and around loose rocks. Then, it’s off to Port Renfrew for some invigorating hikes and tide pool exploration at Botanical Beach. Better than a visit to the aquarium, the tide pools hold many sea creatures such as giant pacific anemones, starfishes and sea urchins There will be scrambling over beautiful sandstone features to reach the pools. We will also make a stop at the awe-inspiring Avatar Grove or Jurassic Grove. There, you can witness 1000-year-old Western Red Cedars, including the famous “Gnarliest Tree in Canada.”
